1811 vs 1250
 

What are your thoughts on replacing my 1250 for an 1811 with a 50 deck? My 1250 has lights and I converted to hydro lift. Also rebuilt the engine 4 years ago. Both in really nice shape. Can purchase the 1811 for a nice price.

I have a 1250 manual lift and a 782. I'd take the 782 over the 1250 any day. The only things the 1250 have over the 782 are better fuel economy and the engine is cheaper to rebuild.
A. 782 is very similar to a 181@.

No comparison. Can't go wrong with the 1811. Pinnacle of the GT's. Only thing that would have made it perfect would have been power steering. Diesel motor would be cool, but then it would be a 1512. :biggrin2:

Only difference between a 782 and an 1811 is the Mag engine.

I have had three of the quiet lines, a 1450, and two 1650's.

And also an 1811 and a 782 (similar tractors).

The choice was on which ones to keep, and I choose to keep the 1811 and sold the quietlines. I felt the 1811 is the best of the lot. Smooth running. Lots of little things sorted out (oil filter, fill plug for hydro, oil light, disc brakes (for a plan to add steering brakes), metal sheet panels).

Having said that, some people prefer the older tractors. And the fact that they were made by IH. The twins on the 1811 are more expensive to rebuild if needed. Am sure there are other views/opinions, no absolute answer either way, just depends on what you like.

I second that. If you can keep the 1250 for play and get the 1811 for mowing. You'll be surprised how many uses you find for the pair. I think I've had 4 going at once.

No, 1864 would be closest. But it had the plastic....

The 1811 also had the adjusters on the front axle,which was nice when the pivot pin started to wear. Maybe the CCC 782s had it, IDK? :beerchug:

Gerks, once you own one of the twin cylinder machines you will see what everyone is talking about and that one looks nice in the picture. The 1811 was one of the best built machines made. Not all 18XX's have the axle adjuster but the later ones do but that is also a simple fix if this one doesn't. As with all the aluminum rear machines, check the rear bolts.

If you get the machine you may want to add one of the cyclops rear frame covers to help with the bolts working loose like I did on the 1811 I once had if it doesn't have the cat 0 hitch. The SamMac brace would also be a great add also.
