Some rust inside my gas tank

My OEM gas tank on my 108 has some rust inside of it but no particles from what I can tell. It seems clean. Is there anything I should do to it besides just keep a fuel filter on it and hope for the best? I really want to do the best job I can on my first restore and don't want rust anywhere lol

Thanks!

You may want to look at something like this.
http://www.kreem.com/fueltankliner.html
I've used this product on motorcycle tanks with good results.

You could try the Electrolysis method...I have had good luck with that and saw on another post where one of the members used it with good results on his gas tank. Heck of a lot cheaper too!!!! I believe that other post was in the Restoration section on here. There are actually several that will explain the process to you and typical results... Good Luck!!!

If all you want to do is remove the rust inside the tank I have used muriatic acid and some nuts. Plug the out let, toss a handful of nuts in the tank and some acid and shake. Then pour the acid out and flush it out. I'd still do the Kreem liner if it was my tank.

First time I ever did the Kreem thing was on a ATC Big Red tank 20 yrs ago and the guy is still using that bike.

I've used Red Kote with good success on a couple tanks that had minor leaks. I'd be wary of using over rust, though, so I'd try to find a way to remove the rust first.

Rust in tank

I had a Farmall CUB tractor that had rust in the fuel tank. I got it clean using the cheapest method possible: Drain out the gasoline first !!! Let dry. Buy a bottle of "THE WORKS" at you local WalMart or dept store for $1.00, plug your tank, pour the bottle in and add water; let soak.
Drain the tank and rinse completely and add "ARM and HAMMER" powder to help stop the chemical process while rinsing. Make sure you dry the inside of the tank, and coat it with oil, or put gas inside right away.
Look this method up on Utube, that's how I found out about it.
Use at your own risk and use common sense.

I've heard of guys using a little diesel fuel for a rinse to prevent flash rusting.
