106 clutch
 

hello to all ,no expert here .i recently put a new clutch in this old girl also got the new spings on the disc, plates looked good problem is when i release clutch it will not go anywhere if i apply light pressure on the pedal it wants to pull but slowly ,after reinspecting everything i found the clutch teasing spring is broken will that cause my problem i know it has to be changed but i only wanna take it apart 1 more time thanks for listening and any thoughts you have are appreciated

Yes, it's the teaser. Same thing was wrong with my 124 when I got it. The teaser was so rotted, it appeared to look good, but had no tension at all. Coincidentally, the clutch spring seems soft also.
I mde a new teaser out of stock (we buy springs in 2' lengths and make our own depending on the application.
Change the teaser, readjust the clutch pedal...you'll be fine.

I always thought the teaser spring was there so the clutch wasn't "grabby". I have a couple gear drives with broken teaser springs and other than being grabby they work ok (not great but ok) as long as none of the spring is "missing" the clutch should still work.

Just a thought.

check your linkage and make sure it is correct and have the clutch/peddle set per service manual. also, check the set-up/order of compoments on the drive shaft. make sure they are in the correct order and direction.

Was the disc plates trued up on a lathe?

You can have no teaser spring and the clutch will work fine, but it will not engage smoothly. When you say 'new clutch,' what was replaced? A 'new clutch' usually entails a new driveshaft, pilot bushing, friction disc, teaser spring, throwout bearing, main spring, and spirol pins. The pressure plates should also be trued up in a lathe. You'd be amazed how much runout plates that 'look good' can have. I've had a junk a few sets because they wouldn't clean up after removing 60 thou off the face, even though they looked good.

If you forgot washers when you reassembled it or didn't replace the main spring, that may be the cause of your problem.

Not trueing the clutch plates is one of the major reasons owners have problems with their clutch after a rebuld. Using a belt sander or a disc sander is a poor way to refinish them. A lathe is the best wat to do it.

thankyou to everyone who helped me i took it apart changed the teaser spring and had the plates turned on a lathe now it works great.
