ATV tires

Anyone running ATV tires on their cub? I'm looking at some of the mud tires available as an alternative to ag tires.

Most of my cubs have atv tires. I buy them on craigslist. I can buy a set for under 100 for 4. I set a paid 20 a pair 1/2 worn which has more enough tread on them and a set brand new take offs for a 100 for 4.

Here's Cad's pic. Some ATV tires on a cub. He LOVES them.

The big advantage to these tires are they are radials;

Once you use them, it is tough to try to get traction out of a bias tire.

I still use bias, but, mostly because I can not get radials in the right size.

I was running the 1000 with the blade, and radial ATV tires today.

The real test of a tire is traction in reverse.

The 1000 will back up a grade on sandy soil that you would expect only four wheel drive or chains could handle!!

I only run 4 psi tire pressure, the footprint of the tire is L O N G !! :bigeyes:

I probably have 3-4 times as much tire touching the ground, compared to a bias tire,,,

Even the 2284 has VERY little contact area;

These tires are kinda like running "mini-tracks" :biggrin2:

Just letting the air out of a bias ply tire is not the same thing, you actually loose traction with low air pressure in bias tires.

I have a 1641 the PO put a set of ATV tires on the rear. I haven't used it in several years but I remember it being pretty bouncy.

CADplans, Thanks for your info, it helped me decide in favor of the ATV tires. Like the wheels. Where can I get a set?

Be aware of the ply rating on ATV tires.
Most seem to be 2-ply and others with same tread are 4-ply.
So keep that in mind.

The wheels were "takeoffs", someone changed the tires/wheels on an ATV.

I bolted them on backward,,,,,,

Stop at a local ATV store, and see if they have any takeoffs,,,,,,,, :bigthink:

I just looked on the local CL.
Found these babies! The add says the paddles are a good 3" tall.
If they made the atv float, you would have a paddle wheel boat !

CADplans: All the 12" ATV wheels I've seen are 4 lug, except yours. Seems a 5 lug to 4 lug wheel adapter is non-existent also. Maybe I just don't know how to search correctly. I'll keep looking for 5 lug ATV wheels though.
