Following directions for proper diagnostics
1 Attachment(s)
so here's a nice example how following diagnostic procedure locates your problem.
CH25 fouling the right side plug. step 1 check compression. left side 160 , right side 10 step 2 hook up cyl leak down tester right side holds 20 psi. air can be heard escaping the carb. step 3 remove the head. remove the intake valve, put it in a drill press and spin it. its bent. inspection of the seat shows the same , its black in one area. not sealing. I've only posted this as an example of why its important to follow the steps in the order they are given. you are taken to the problem with just a few quick checks. had I not done step 1 and 2 and just taken the head off I'd be on here asking what's wrong with my engine? time to go make some more horsepower |
You lost 90% of the people when you mentioned the leak down tester.

You mean to say, that I can't just take a head off and look it over? I can test it...... before taking it off and it will save time? So, your saying that you shouldn't just take stuff apart to "see what's going on"? Who'da thought....... :bash2:
I think it's cool you mentioned the drill press with the valve. I've done that so many times....... Hate to say it on here, but for valves that I didn't have the tools to grind (too small) I've actually taken a whetstone and "ground" them on the drill press. Wasn't pretty, but it did work. :biggrin2: (Yes, I know, I know.... but for what it was, and the fact it made it run.... that's all I needed.) Note: Not a suggested method to others!! |

Gee I wonder why this one won't run?:bigthink:
Well for starters the bendix drive had no teeth, the flywheel was missing teeth, it had two bent pushrods and two valve guides had walked up in the heads causing the bent push rods, Oh yeah it also had exhaust gasket where intake gaskets belonged. Once all those issues were addressed the gov. adjustment was screwed up. Yep worked on by someone that shouldn't have been allowed to use tools. :biggrin2: Runs decent now but not an engine I would ever sell to someone. It lives in my pressure washer. :beerchug: Sorry for hijacking your thread. |
