127 & 122

Just picked up two cub cadets last weekend, a 122 & 127... The 122 is running pretty well and the 127 is a project.

Currently the 127 will not turn the starter using the key, so I checked every wire for continuity and to make sure they were ran properly using a wiring diagram I found in the technical library..The only thing that was incorrect was the fuse (i think thats what it is) coming off the I terminal on the ignition switch, that wire had been cut.... if you follow this link to the 127 diagram you will see what I mean..

I applied power to the starter to make sure it was good and I was able to turn the motor over. Im not sure if this would affect the starter turning over but I also do not have spark...Any advice is definitely appreciated!

The Blue wire coming from the "I" terminal of the Ignition Switch is a female insulated connector. It is used for the optional Electric Lift that was available for NF Cubs.

IF you follow the diagram in the Tech Library, you should see that 12V power leaves the "S" terminal of the Ignition switch and goes to the Neutral Safety Switch. It goes through the switch if the brake pedal is depressed. It leaves that switch and goes to the Starter Solenoid and then should energize that. NOW....this is considering all the parts are there, that is it wired correctly, and that the devices are functioning correctly.

I was wondering what was up with that extra wire, good to know there isn't anythign wrong there...

Just got in from the garage...

I followed the diagram in the tech library and confirmed that everything is wired properly and all of the wires are good, so I decided to start cleaning all the connections...That worked and i am now able to turn the motor over with the key, next I checked for spark and I don't have any.

So tomorrow night I am going to replace the coil with the one from the running tractor and see if that works, if that doesn't work i am goign to dig into the points which I have never dealt with before...I believe those are the two main things that can affect spark?

here is a picture I took of it earlier....still pretty rough, want to get it running before I work on the cosmetics!

Here is some more data to help you trace down the "no spark" problem...

Ign Circuit

Ign Coil

Thanks everyone!

I plan to update this thread with my progress, mechanical and cosmetic... The PO of the 122 painted the hood, rims and deck a "cream" color that isn't the standard cub cadet white so id like to paint at least the hood the proper color....

After work tonight im goign to try to get the 127 to start, drink a couple beers and hang in the garage..good times...

On a side note, my shift lever for the hydro trans on the 127 wont move which scares me a little...Any thoughts?

The lever is probably rusted stuck. See if you can get a vise-grip on the shaft under the dash and try to break it loose.

I'll give that a shot tonight, thanks...

Good news is I got the engine running last night, I took some sandpaper to the points and i started getting spark....After that it pretty much started right up and seemed to run well...

I have to get a starter and coil for it, but other than that I think I should be good....at least til i find the other things wrong with it! haha..

Thanks again...
