Will the engine from a 128 fit in a 1250?

I've owned a Cub Cadet 1250 for 35 years and I think I broke the rod this summer. I found a Cub 128 with a 12hp engine for sale nearby. The owner of the 128 says the clutch for the PTO/blades needs replacing but all else works fine. Could I replace my old motor on the 1250 with the motor from the 128 and use my PTO clutch? I think they called mine a quite line series because it has the side covers. Would the covers still fit if I used the motor from the 128? I'm not a mechanic and of course I'd get someone to do the work for me but I'd like to pick up the 128 if it would work. Also it appears the 128 does not appear to be a hydrostatic unit like my 1250. Would this be a problem? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!

Short answer: no. You need a K301AQS. 128 has a K301A. :beerchug:

Hydro or gear drive donor makes no difference. That's in the trans, not the motor.

Sometimes Kohler connecting rods will just break and not hurt anything else. It'd be worth checking in to.

Will it fit in there ? Yes. But it will need wiring changes as well as I dont think the 1250s pto will bolt onto it (cant remember if they were drilled for em) also have he side shields will no longer be able to bolt on without modification. Would be much easier to get the 128 to use as a worker while ya rebuild the aqs engine

Id do what can by said get the 128 got by as a worker until you get to the 1250. Also keep a watch on craiglist for an engine who knows what else is tore up in your engine.
