Ammeter jumping
The ammeter on my 1250 will jump to the left then go back to the normal charging position then jump back again. The battery doesn't give problems and seems to holding a good charge. I've checked for loose connections, etc but haven't sourced the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm beginning to wonder about the meter itself.
Any thoughts out there in cybercubland? Thanks in advance.....Wayne |
1250 Ammeter
Might be the Regulator/rectifier. Good thing is that it is a simple fix. Right (passenger) side of engine on the flywheel cowl. Two bolts hold it in. Unplug put new one in, plug it back in, golden. Before replacing, make sure it is tight, as it must be grounded. I've also ran a ground wire off of one of bolts to the frame to solve this problem. Had the same problem with the Quietlines before.

I have had a similar problem with my 1650 where the starter switch has a bad connection causing a no charge condition

I just got my 129 running and when I go to full throttle the Amp Gauge goes clear past the C and pegs out. Is this normal for these?

The VR is new as is the wiring, I did buy a used AMP Gauge, and the S/G I am not sure of.
I will check the voltage output and see where it is. |
I will check it out.

It appears I was sold the wrong VR again!! It's a 4 wire and not a 3 wire. It has Bat, F, L, and Gen Terminals. According to the wiring diagram for the originals the L terminal goes to the Ign Switch and then to the coil.
I have an email in to the store I bought it from. |

I checked the voltage and it's putting out way over 16 volts.

I changed out the rectifier and things became "golden". Thanks. It's a good thing to have several spare engines sitting around. I didn't do the ground wire thing but I cleaned the mounting surfaces well. It shows a steady charge now so I put the battery on trickle tonight to bring things up to par. Thanks again....Wayne |
