PTO Removal 129
I and PB Blaster got two of the three sets of set screws off the PTO but the third won't budge after several doses and tapping the pulley. I'm afraid to really force the issue for fear of breaking the wrench off in the screw. How about gently heating the local area of the pulley?
Any ideas? I should have bought a model airplane to play with. Bombur |
so you have 2 clear and free holes and one with how many set screws in it?
i could not get the last cone point set screw out so i drilled it out. starting with a 1/8" drill and then finished with a 3/16" drill. slow and steady. all you need to do is knock the point off the cone to clear the bearing. also, if the set screw has been removed from the bearing's locking collar then the hub and bearing can be removed as one unit. if the set screw has not been removed from the locking collar then the hub can still be removed but there will be a big crack sound as the bearing breaks as it is pulled over the locking collar. i would stay away from using heat. |
A torx socket may get it out. I have also heard that a tool called an impact driver with an allen socket or a torx socket can break it loose.
I don't think that heat will do it for you and you really don't want to try to force it off, you WILL break a chunk out of the back of the casting, then it will be useless. Good luck. |
