Engine RPM
I've searched this site and cannot find an answer to a very simple question. How is the easiest and cheapest way to measure the engine idle and max rpm's?
I see the laser tachometer with reflective tape on the shaft procedure online and then the tachometers at the parts store that have plugs for the modern cars. I have a 105 with a K241 engine. |
A photo-tach is the most accurate. You can also use a multi-meter with an RPM function, or a timing light with a RPM function. I have all 3, but I own a shop too.

I use a laser photo-tach. I think I paid $25 on ebay for one. They are even cheaper now--like $15.

Thanks guys, I ordered the 14.99 one from ebay this a.m. I'm looking forward to winter to get back in the workshop and out of the yard. Finally get my Grandfather's 105 back in top condition.
