1250 electric PTO draining battery
1250 hydro PTO works fine but I would like to fix the battery drain issue. After reading a couple of other posts and doing to all the appropriate tests I'm certain my charging system is working properly and my PTO clutch is worn and draining the battery prematurely. Is rebuilding or repairing a worn PTO possible. A new / replacement seems to be running around $250.00.
It only dies when using the PTO for a period of time and then battery will be dead. |
I don't think the PTO is causing your drain. You either have a bad battery, or the charging system isn't up to par. Amp load from a PTO is like 3 Amps, maybe 5. It would have to be drawing over 15amps to overpower a good charging system. Which...... would blow the fuse.

I agree. Additional, you may have the wire feeding the PTO partially shorting to ground. Using a DVM or VOM could check this out. |
I am pretty sure the battery is not the problem. I have been thru several because of this issue. I've tested the charging system and all seems to be good with that as well. Need to go thru the wiring to find a possible short.

With the engine at full throttle, what is the voltage at the battery?
Test again with the PTO on and see what the voltage is, but BE CAREFUL!! |
