3100 series hydro fluid/filter

I did a quick search but only came up with older threads for the older CC's. Now I've been Googling tonight and I just wanted to verify a couple things I found.

Found a site where folks mentioned that in place of the overly expensive CC tranny fluid you can use any 15w-40 preferably synthetic oil.
Then I found another saying that Rotella 30w will work.
Lastly the first site also mentioned that certain Wix oil filters can be used on the hydro.

So whose telling the truth here? I don't want to scrimp and possibly hurt my Cub but then again I don't wanna pay for premium stuff when I don;t have to.

I recently lost my mind when I discovered that the Mobil 1 I have used in my vehicles for the past 5 years jumped to $9.87 per quart in my area.

Cub Cadet recommends that you use their synthetic fluid and filter. It probably is the best to use but IIRC the complete change will run you about $100. I too have seen where other people use differnt oils. I now run Rotella 15W-40 in the rear without any issues. I'm down south so it doesn't get 20 below zero down here when I'm using my machines and the Rotella works fine for me. I only use Wix 51410 on all of my machines but I think a NAPA 1410 is the same.

Thanks for the Wix part number... If this winter is going to be anything like last winter (and everyone is saying it will be).. then we will hit lows of at least -10 w/o windchill. Maybe a Rotella 5w-30 would be a good all-around choice since the hottest part of the year we *might* hit 90* but only for a few days.

has anyone used the hytran fluid like the older cubs have used for years, the pump is basicly the same set up,the only thing I'm wondering about would be the inner axle bearing [bushing]

I see no issues with that. Bearings don't care about synthetic fluids. Your not going to hurt it. It's more important that it has OIL than it is what brand, or whether it is synthetic or not.
