Why did my deck drive belt break?

This is my BIL's deck from his LT2180. I hooked him up with this tractor only a couple months ago after the Snapper ZTR that he bought new a couple years ago was turning into a POS. Looking back at it now I'm surprised the Snapper lasted as long as it did. He has only put 28 hours on the Cub, at the rate he's going I'm not so sure it will survive a couple hundred. Told him to keep it dry and to blow the cuttings off after mowing, guess that is never going to happen. Grass on the deck was starting to rot. This is the third belt in less than 30 running hours. Pulleys are perfect, spindles are nice and free. My guess is it's run WFO all the time and what ever they hit with it who cares. Man I hate it when people just flat out abuse nice stuff. I'm done hooking him up next time he should get a walk behind. Rant over.

I'll post some before and after pics of the hood of this tractor tomorrow. Just shoot me for trying to help this moron out.

I have never seen a deck with that much accumulated grass before!! :bigthink:

Then, again, I never looked!!

:LMAO1:

I agree, that kind of person needs a walk behind, mine is rather indestructible!!

Look at the torn up steel lip at the front of the deck. Ya think that could have made any sounds as the blades were hitting it or maybe stopping the blades from turning? He needs a goat. :beatdeadhorse:

Wow, sure looks like Cub abuse to me. Make some rubber blades then they would just bounce around instead of destroying stuff. I doubt if a good cut is much of a concern. :bash2::bigeyes:
I'm guessing that you won't be loaning your equipment to him.

No kidding! Anyway the torn lip has been removed, it has a new OEM Cub belt on it, I ran it and it works just fine. No more freebies for this guy, he can start paying for his stupidity. Maybe when his wallet gets banged he'll wise up. Can't wait till he finds out what a deck shell will cost him. :biggrin2:

:biggrin2: Sam I'll trade you your BIL for my sister's two boys.

They are great exercise machines, and they do work, too!!

Better than an hour on a "Stairmaster" and an hour on a Cub Cadet!! :biggrin2:

BUT, Sam Mac has that covered, an hour on a Cub Cadet, and TWO hours fixin' what the BIL breaks!! :ExtremeFunny:
