2072 SEW 23 HP Vanguard Repower

After the Winsun snafu with the 2072, I decided that it needed to be running by winter. SEW shipped the engine super fast. I ordered it Teus at 1am, it showed up at work Thur at 3pm.

Sat morning I went to TSC and bought a pulley and an eye bolt. Put the bolt in the header on the garage door, hung the pulley with my ATV winch cable through it, and had a Cub motor hoist. :beerchug:

The install would have been super easy in a 2082 that the kit was designed for. I had a couple issues to address. The choke cable was too long, the throttle cable was too short, and I had to splice the 2 starter cables.

They supplied a choke cable to cut to length but I just shortened the one that was there. I used their choke cable for my throttle. I put it on the same side of the Vanguard as the choke(where they had the hold down) and my throttle work backwards. oh well, I'll fix that later.

The drive shaft bolted right to their adapter, the mount bolts lined up, and overall no major problems. My ignition switch had turned a nice shade of green so it wouldn't crank right away, had a couple laying around and swapped it out. The green oil pressure wire on the engine harness connector had been crimped to tight so the wire broke at the terminal(on the new engine), had to repair that.

Oh and the muffler shield needs a couple inches cut off the front for the grill to go on. And the exhaust pipe needs to be bent also. I think other than the broken OPS wire there would have been no issues going into a cyclops.

I had the winch set up about 1 pm Saturday and fired it at 5 pm Sunday. There's probably 3 hours max actually installing the motor and mods so far. The rest of the time was spent looking for parts, tools, or my beer.:beer2:

I still have a few things to do, but I am going to tear it down completely when I get my Cat 0.

Thanks for the compliments, guys! From what I can tell it runs great. It started raining about 6:30 and kept raining until 9:30. So, I only got a couple quick rides in.:beerchug:

Looks great, now we need a vid! :beerchug: It's always good to see these machines given a second life with a new motor instead of being parted out. Kudos to you for putting the time and money to keep another Cub out there kickin green butt (uhh I mean grass, not the tractor?) :biggrin2:

Looks good buddy. One point you need to deal with, you need some sort of duct work between the fire wall and the inlet to the blower housing otherwise you will be recirculating hot air. See pic. of your install and what I did with my old 1210 with a Vanguard repower.

Also what happened to the diesel repower?

Love the hoist setup!

Thanks, Ryan! I'll see what I can do. Still have a lot of chores to do today :beerchug:

Thanks Sam, the duct is first on my list. What did you use on the 1210? Is that a piece of vinyl? It looks nice! Much better than some foam.

The diesel is waiting for me to find some time. It may make its way into the O. I know the hood will be an issue, but the rest should be pretty straight forward. I want all of my Cubs running first. I just didn't have the heart to cut the frame of the 2072.
