Generator/Starter Regulator Problems
The regulator on my 123 went out. Tractor died because it was just running off the battery. I bought a new regulator and the terminals are marked B, F, and L. There is no ground terminal on it. When hook up the postive terminal on the battery and just touch the ground the starter/generator starts to spin.
I would appreciate some words of wisdom. Thanks, Ted:bash2: |
(A) Is this V/R a Cub Cadet part or aftermarket...?? If aftermarket, what is the make and part number?
(B) The grounding is normally through the Mounting Feet. |
There is prolly another terminal under the reg marked gen.
l is for load and it is not used with the wiring on a 123. |
It is a 1414 regulator. I am going to do some more work on it today. I already found some wiring problems. I am retire so time isn't a factor.
Thanks, Ted:bigthink: |
Ted, go to this link for some wiring verification.

Still need some help, in the harness there is a red wire that comes out of the harness near the voltage regulator, I trace it back to a bolt that is screwed in to the block on the left side of the block. This wire is not shown on any of the drawings. ???
Thanks, Ted |
Looks like some "modifications" have been made.
I would suggest that you go through your harness and make sure that it matches the diagram. |
The red wire I am talking about is in the wiring loom, and that portion has not been modified. The end toward the switch has been but I do not believe that is where the problem is.

You say you have a 123. The only red wire is the Red Battery Cable, which is a large diameter cable.
Perhaps, the wire you are talking about is the "orange" wire which is NOT bolt to the block. The 123 wiring diagram is quite simple as compared to subsequent models. Click here and look at the Fourth Wiring Diagram down..... 123 Wiring Diagram |

There is a red wire in the harness. It is a ground for the regulator. It connects to the dash tower bolt on the right side, the other connects to the mounting tab on the vr.time to fix that wiring diagram.
