"inherited" a 1030
Been searching all over for the manual or some shop notes on the forward/speed/reverse control arm and any adjustments that can be made. As far as I can tell, it is a 1992 model and was manufactured by MTD (maybe that is the forum I should be posting in?) It has no separate gear shift lever below the seat like every manual I have found clearly details. While sitting at the wheel, there is just a brake/clutch pedal and the lever to engage the mower deck on the right and on the left is the forward speed adjust and the forward/neutral/reverse lever. There is a threaded link on the end of the control arm to adjust the position of the lever to match that of the actual mechanism that switches the direction of travel (that being a pin of sorts, with two springs separated by a washer and threaded with a nut on the exposed end. The other end disappears into what seems to be a predecessor to the hydrostatic transmission.
The mower runs like a champ, the problem is with getting it to stop or getting it to go in the direction intended. Sometimes it will stop moving right when I press in the brake, other times it will just slow way down, other times it seems to do nothing until I pull the lever in the opposite direction. Then, it will sometimes stop moving while in the neutral position, other times it will just throw itself into the opposite direction. So, if any of the mechanically minded souls on here care to try and walk me through the way to adjust this contraption I would greatly appreciate it! I know just enough to be dangerous around a machine not intended to make sawdust... |
I can't find anywhere that Cub Cadet made a model "1030".

I went to the Cub Cadet Parts Look Up site...........Nothing
I didn't realize it was a RER and maybe the above site does not have material for RER's...??? |
Yeah, that is the issue I am having, I consider myself pretty adept at searching on the net, but this one has me baffled...

First time I ran across this. That model is:
It is listed here.... http://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/cu...vice-and-parts But not here.... http://www.cubcadet-parts-direct.com...FVFgMgodj1cABQ Go figure |
Thanks for that first link, I will be exploring it a little more after work today. I gathered most of the same information from other sites here and there, but maybe there is some morsel of information that was left out. Appreciate the help!

Parts tree shows 2 transmissions I don't see any difference but these are the 2 pics. Looks like a pretty simple setup with only forward and reverse.

I can see differences, on the far left, starting just past #54. Not exactly sure which one is mine, and I really don't want to get that deep into the old girl. I was hoping for a quick adjustment on the threaded rod or the double spring thing...

Wish I could help you more but I've never even seen one. Good luck on getting it up and running.
