CC 129 no ignition spark
I will admit up front, if you might note from some of my prior Threads, I was having difficulty with my CC124 and the creeper gear I had installed last year, which I still have not remedied and decided to maybe transfer my rototilling operation to a CC129 Hydro I also have. Last Fall as I put things up for the Winter the 129 started and ran without difficulty.
This Summer as I tried to start the 129 it would not fire. Starter turns easily but no ignition. Cleaned the plug etc. but no go. Tested with spark tester and no spark. Thought it might be the coil or condenser so I took it off the 124 (since I knew it worked) but still no spark. On advise from a friend I noted no current going to the + lead on the coil. I then went up to the ignition/starter switch thinkingit might be a bad switch but I tested the posts with contunity tester and current circulated properly. I thought the wire from the switch to the coil might have disrupted (being wrapped in a harness, which I did not want to unravel)) but it tested ok on the contunity test also. Question: why am I not getting power to the coil? What am I leaving out.? New battery etc. Thank You |

Go to the Tech Library Section on page 5 & D/L the wiring diagram. |
Clean the contacts on you points, should fire right up then

Are you sure your testing the correct wire? The correct terminal on the switch? If a wire is broken, or has only one strand connecting it, it will test continuity with a meter. Check everything over again. I have a feeling that you are getting power, you are just making a bad connection when checking. If you truly believe you aren't..... well, run a new wire man. IF you find you are getting power and it still doesn't run, defer to Lew's post. It is the most likely. |
If there is no power to the coil then there is no power to the coil, not much else you can do but chase it back and find out where it stops.
The wire to the POS (+) side of the coil on a 129 comes directly from the "I" terminal on the ignition switch and is "hot" when the key is in the "on" (run) position AND in the "start" position. It gets its power from the "B" terminal on the ignition switch and it gets its power from the neg (-) side of the amp gauge... Look up the wiring diagram in the tech section and follow your wiring back to find out where the power is and where it stops. |
