K301 Head

I've finally tore down the K301 from my 129 and the block and crank are ready to head out to the machine shop.

The major reason the engine stopped running though was it burned the head out. It suitable for nothing more then scrap.

So I've been looking for a used head. It seems like there's pile of the ones with the more centered spark plug hole. The one that came on my engine has the offset hole.

Is there a big advantage to one over the other? I know the tin on top would have to change too but that's not an issue as the muffler shield is shot anyway. Just trying to figure out if I should just get one of the more plentiful type or hold out for what came on the engine.

You can use either. They moved the plug for emission reasons I believe. It can make more power than the centered plug, but you don't really see much benefit unless you do something other than stock to the motor. I am not a puller, but I build engines, I am told you see the greatest benefit when over 4K RPM. All in all, the choice is yours. It won't affect anything. If you can't find one, put an ad in the wanted section. :beerchug:

Not a bad idea, I'll do just that.

Thanks,
