IH Cub Cadet 105 deck setup?
 

Hi hope the pics upload to my album. Haven't been doing much, I'm still not very agile. Speaking of decks, from the pics, can you see the bubble on the level? The deck is all the way down. I haven't looked for the deck manual online (421u111 deck) but will. Should the bubble be level? Do these look like the right size wheels (about 6 1/2" dia.) The front roller is also touching the pavement. It looks like you have to take the deck off to move the adjustment bolts. This hole thread started with the belt flying off. I have clutch problems too . I guess you have to remove the mule drive to properly pry or puller it off? (it won't disengage or engage properly) Not sure if the mule drive is the double pulley system or the front frame where the stiff short spring attaches. Taking that front frame off would be nice. I see a few bolts holding it on. Anyway enough questions for now. I am in no big hurry. I only can do what I am able at the moment. Oh as long as I am at it, do the starter/gen get weak? I believe the batteries I have tried are good but is turns over kinda slow. Thanks for any help. Skyler (Cal)

I level a deck by measuring from the blade tips to the ground. I have the front slightly lower than the rear. The PTO is help on by 3 set screws. 2 each in the 3 holes.

For your information.... the "clutch" you referred is also called the PTO. The PTO appears to be engaged in the pics. Pulling back the PTO clutch lever disengages the PTO. You may need to make adjustments and provide maintenance to the PTO... especially in the area of the "button" on the PTO. Look it up. In the tech forum!

There are other threads related to belts getting thrown off and leveling of the deck. Go to the implements section and do a search. What I do see is a deck that has not been in use for a long while.... rusty pulleys will throw the belts off.

Finally, starter/generator do get weak. First off, make sure the deck is fully disengaged or remove the belt before you start assuming the problem!

Thanks for all the info. I grew up on a cc 104, so I am somewhat familiar with the operation, We just never had these problems with that one. I have found the belt # is not correct. I have a new wear button. My PTO clutch will only engage (after proper adjustment) with a whack from a hammer and bar to help it get spinning. Then it will spark and smoke until it starts so I know I'll have to tear it apart. I have just got some good t-bar wrenches for the set screws when I get to it. The guy I got this from had not mowed in three years because of the belt problem, so I am pretty sure I'll need parts. I've watched a couple videos on the procedure to get it off. Hope those set screws come out. The PTO will partially disengage. I will check the implement section. Right now I am just gathering info for when I am well enough to work on it. Getting better every day so it won't be long. Thanks to all, Cal

I check deck levelness on a concrete surface measuring the distance with a tape measure of the blade ends from the ground.

You can use GOOD quality allen/hex wrenches and use a piece of small pipe or a long 1/4" drive socket and extension to break loose the set screws.

as for the belt use a oem cub belt, I tried several different brands that I could get locally and I'd throw it off instantly:bash2:. I ordered a oem belt worked like a charm:beerchug:....

Cal, seeing your unable to work on the tractor yet, now would be a good time to give the set screws on the pto/clutch a shot of P.B. so it has a chance to work in. That will help you get them out easier when the time is right.

Great point! If you can get some Kroil Penetrating Oil use it. Its some awesome stuff!
