CC 1450 Hydro Question
 

Hi everyone,

I picked up a 1450 with a deck, #1 Tiller and blower and am very excited about it. After ditching the deck and finding the mule belts, the tiller works excellent.

My only problem is the cub doesn't want to go slow. I've read a number of posts about speeding up, variable speeds, etc, but not sure I'm seeing anything about how to slow it down.

What I can share is that when I put the hydro into F or R and slowly inch it up or down, she really doesn't move...when I get it close to 25-30% up/down position, she'll start slowly and quickly speed up. When I try to slow her down, she just pretty much stops.

I opened the tunnel cover and there's a lot of side-side play in the linkage. Trunnion and spring looks a bit loose, but not stretched out or overly so.

Any help or direction would be good. Heck it might be just a fluid change and nothing to do with linkages.

Well, start with a fluid & filter change and see what happens. Spray all of the joints in the linkage also, there may be something binding.

Sometimes changing the fluid and filter will make a huge difference, other times it doesn't help at all, but it's a chance you gotta take.

After you have fixed your trunnion your forward-reverse lever and foot pedal may be out of wack, so go here.

Personally, I see no need to add extra metal pieces to the square hole, unless the ends are worn crooked. I have never had this problem with any that I have fixed. So I simply weld the slots in the corners and then file them back square again.

IIRC someone said that one of my links is dead, but I don't know for sure (I'm too lazy to check).

That's my advice and I'm sticking to it.

Whenever I need to slow down for a tough spot when tilling or throwing, I drag the brake a little.

Sam hit the nail on the head, should take care of your problems.
I second the trunnion repair. Spot weld the corners and file back to square, then new springs and end caps:beerchug:

I've found that when I fix the trunnion and replace the springs and end caps, that the hydro behaves MUCH more predictably---holds speed better up and down hill, etc.
