LTX 1045 Headlight Switch
New here, hello to all. Just purchased a new CC LTX 1045 and like it way better than my old JD. The only thing I don't like is that the headlights come on when you start it, and there's no switch to turn them off. I bought a nice low profile toggle switch, but really have no idea how to wire this thing in. Have searched around the internet and not found much at all. Can any of you help me out with this? I'm sure this is simple stuff to some of you guys, but I'm just not very good at electrical wiring. Don't want to fry something by poking around in there.
Thanks. |
Welcome to OCC! Congrats on your new cub!

You need to put the switch in the circuit betweent the power source, which is the ignition switch and the light(s) You will need a volt meter or visually trace the wires so that you break (install the switch in) the hot wire, not the ground wire. You can use a double pole switch if you want and then break both legs of the circuit. And it's way easier to explain if you understand how basic circuitry works. No offense, but I'm thinking you do not.:bigthink:

If I recall correctly, you can remove one wire from the headlights and both will go out.
FWIW - I unplugged the lights on my LTX1042 until the warranty ran out. Will be adding a switch one of these days, warranty is out, but haven't got to it. The dingbat dealer I bought my '42 from, IMHO, would use the presence of a user installed light switch to void my warranty, which is why I unplugged vs a mod.... LOL!!! |
