Anyway, is there a technique to remove the driveshaft w/o having to move the engine forward?

Take a look in the library section, download the service manual for your tractor it should answer most of your questions.

I have the paper service manuals... somewhere...

Well that was odd........ I had posted at least three responses in your post and now everything is gone. Maybe I broke it? :biggrin2: Anyway, good luck and check the driveshaft.

OK, found the manual.

It recommends removing the pin from the front connection at the engine, then slide the driveshaft forward into the engine, remove the rear coupler after removing the four rear bolts, then slide the axle rearward, out of the engine and out of the chassis. I'll then replace all three pins (1 front, 2 rear) with new pins.

There is a missing brake pedal spring that is located near the center of the chassis that I will also need to purchase and install. I don't believe there is any correlation between my missing spring and my sheared pin.

If you just want to replace the spirol "pins" , no need to move anything. Just knock them out with a punch and replace them.

It would be a good idea to take the driveshaft out and look at the other parts because there may be other worn/broken parts , there almost always is unless a previous owner fixed something already.

The previous owner died twenty years ago...

There is obviously some compression within my drive train as the bores no longer line up properly. I'll need to remove the front pin to properly install the rear pin.

Plus, I can install 3 new pins while I'm at it...

motor mounts shot? if they are you may as well pull the engine out and take care of that. probably why your pin sheared. alignment problems

Nope. Mounts replaced last Spring. Engine is tight.
