Mower Deck Bearing Question
 

Hi,
I'm trying to get my 1650 in top running condition, but the mower deck bearings are a bit crunch. Can anyone tell me if the bearings can be easily pressed/replaced from the housing, or do I have to change the entire housing? The deck is a 50" 3-blade. The stamp on the bearing is Timken LM11949 which I'm sure I can match if I they can be pressed out. BTW - I have a shop press, but I only work on cars - this is my first attempt on the Cub Cadet.

Yes they can be changed. Press really isn't required. You can use a hammer. Press is better though. Pretty simple. Ever change a wheel bearing? Kind of like that. :beerchug:

I've changed more than a dozen wheel bearings on cars and trucks, but they usually have a snap ring. This casing doesn't, and I just want to be sure I'm pressing from the correct spot. I don't have a camera to send a pic, but the casing has a large flange on one side with a ring that protrudes equally on both sides. Do i press from the side with the ribs or the other side? Also, exactly what portion are I pressing - the inner bearing part or the outer protruding ring?

Thanks, they're very similar, but the spindle housing shown (7) is the right shape but mine does not have the cap (part 5). My spindle housing seems to be one piece that bolts directly to the deck. I'll have to get my girls digital camera to send a pic - I've unbolted the housing and it comes off as one piece with the bearing inside.

Yes they do - the only thing is the bearing is in, but I just need to know exactly where to press to get it out. The bearing is loose inside the housing and only is held in place with the shaft.

Hit the shaft with a hammer (block of wood between hammer and shaft, heavy mallet, brass hammer, brass punch, just not hammer to shaft), or just put it in the press and press on the shaft.

I finally have pics! I've attached two (each side). The shaft is out of the housing, I just have to get the bearing out.

Knock that thing out with a hammer and a punch! It's just the seal holding it in there. No press needed! Get-er-done! :beerchug:
