129 drive plate hub assembly
 

I need to replace a worn drive plate hub assembly (IH-394034-R31/32) on a 129. After removing the drive rod, do the 4 cap screws that secure the hub assembly also secure the pulley (& anything else) behind the hub, or do they only secure the hub? Any difficulties I need to be aware of?

Should be a nut on the end of the crank shaft that holds the hub on.

Just a suggestion. The drive arrangement on those mowers was not the best arrangement in the world. If I were you, I would upgrade to a Quietline drive shaft arrangement. I think it will bolt right in, but the entire shaft must be replaced to do that.

The four 1/4" cap screws do indeed secure the drive plate to the hub. Not to worry, take 'em out, a little light tapping may be req'd and it should come right off.

What if anything is wrong with the drive hub and/or pulley?

Here's what an upgraded drive assembly looks like. This is a 149 (should be similar to your 129) with a quiet line drive arrangement. Uses the same 4 small cap screws to secure the drive bracket to the hub, and you will need to buy the drive hub and the extra drive collar that you pin to the existing drive shaft. Add the flex coupling and the necessary bolts.

The hub has 1/4 inch long grooves created by the metal pin.

Copy that! Anyway, that's how it comes off. Repair or replace as necessary!
Should not be too hard to find a replacement. The rag joint solution is a good idea also.
