105 transmision lever

Thanks for all the help in the past. My next question is, how do you get the transmission direction lever off the console. I've taken the one set screw out, used PB blaster for 4 days and two flat head screw drivers under it to pry up. My next thing was to put a block of wood on top of it and hit the wood with the air chisel while prying up. I don't want to damage the finish or break it. Is the one set screw the only thing holding it on? Is the shaft splined or round? If someone needs pictures I can take them at lunch and post later. Thanks again!

I have the same problem! I logged on to ask the same question and saw your post. I hope someone offers a solution to our question.

I have ruined them before getting them off.

Spray PB Blaster in the set screw hole, wiggle it, wait a few days, repeat...

Welcome to the club. I have the same issue with my 149. It will turn on the shaft but I can not get it off. Got the set screw out and it makes no difference. I'll probably end up cutting it off with a die grinder and then fab up something. It has a male spline on the shaft and a female spline on the lever. My guess is the splines on the lever are shot.

Looks like a new tool for Jeff to make.
If you go above the set screw hole and drill another hole above it where the splines are,you can get some PB up in there.

Thanks for the info on the shaft being splined. I will no longer try to turn the lever on the shaft! Still stuck. If I ever get it off I'll be sure to post.

Well I came up with a way to get the lever off. I drilled a 1/4" hole down through the center till I hit the shaft, then I put a 1/4" socket head bolt in the hole and used a bearing puller to pull it off the shaft. Next I drilled and tapped the lever for a 10-32 screw, then drilled and tapped the shaft for the 10-32 screw ( That's what I had in my bin) Put it back together and Happy Happy Happy.

I eventually rounded out the hex on my 129 and gave it up.

I got mine off today without damaging anything! I don't have photos, so I'll try to explain. Removed the two bolts holding the control rod support (it's "Z" shaped). Cut a 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" block of wood about 3" long. I C-clamped the control rod support and block of wood to the frame in the same location it normally is bolted. This puts the control lever 1-1/2" above the dash. Room enough to use an 18" pry bar, curved on one end, with a strip of 3/4" thick wood block to protect the dash. I heated the chrome lever with a propane torch just below the set screw hole. Pryed up with the crow bar and it came off. Knowing it has a splined shaft was the key!
