Cub Cadet 169

I put a listing on the local Craigslist last week end looking for another cub cadet. I got an offer to buy a non-running 169 and an extra 169 for parts. I asked him how much he wanted for it ,and all he could do was comment that there was only 4000 of these made.

So, my question is, how much should I offer him? I have no idea why it don't run or how much may or may not have been scavenged off of either of the 2 tractors. Is it really worth a lot more because there were only 4000 made ,or is he looking to make a fortune off of nothing?

I'm not a collector just looking for a quality tractor to mow a do snow work with. My 122 is a great tractor but, I think the bug is itching at me. I want another and then probably another. My wife is in disagreeance though.

Thank you for the help.

do you know what they look like? if you post pictures that will help us help you with a price.how much of a "parts machine" is the second one? i paid $900 for my 169 but it came witha 44a deck, qa42a, 1a tiller, cultivator, plow and snowblade.

The "only 4000 made" part could go either way. Yes, it might be worth more due to rarity, but it might cost you a LOT more to restore due to rarity.
I definitely wouldn't talk price until I saw them in person. If it's just tractors w/o any implements or decks, the price should go way down I'd think.
Good luck, and I hope your wife comes around to your way of thinking...

I'm almost positive the only differance between the 169 and the 149, 129 is the motor and graphics. So finding parts wouldn't be a problem unless your looking for a engine

The muffler and shield are NLA, which could be a bit of a problem if they don't have them and something to keep in mind.

oh yeah i forgot about the muffler. those dang things are pricey if you find them.

When I bought my 169, it had a manual lift but the pump was ported but plugged. Apparently both the 149 and 169 models had this feature. Maybe only in the later portion of the model year. My 169 was made in late Sept, 1974.

Good Luck!

I gotta agree with the other guys... What the "heck" is he thinking??? In EVERY case the seller wants as much as he can possibly get for it and the buyer wants to pay as little as possible, end of story!

The seller is obligated to offer it for HIS price, the buyer can then counter offer and negotiate from there.

If he won't give you a price, start him out at $20.00 and force him to tell you how much he wants.

Last year I bought a 169 from a guy here in MI and it had a 12hp engine in it. It also came with the 129 that the engine come from and a 14hp engine that he said "had a noise in it". I gave him 300.00 for it and I was at least able to make sure that it moved and hyd work ok. Then I had to find an engine and finally found a complete good running engine, complete with s/g, and muffler, but paid way more than I did for the tractor. The engines and mufflers are hard to find. It is an identical tractor as my 149s, just different hp

He told me today I probably wouldn't be interested as it has no mower deck. I'm done playing games. I think at this point even if he wanted $20.00 I'd tell him to shove it. Well maybe not for $20.00 but I think you get the point. I do not want to play games with him.
I basically told him if you don't really want to sell it Just say so. A deck is a minor detail as they are on craigslist all the time.

Although now I'm getting offered a 147 149 and 1250 from another guy but again he wants to play the make me an offer game too.

How about an 1100 for $200 no picture. just a description saying the briggs has been removed pending rebuild. Are the 1100's as good as the kohler cubs.
