Anyone know where to get a bushing for my throttle arm?
After doing some work this weekend on my 1450, I found I have one thing left to fix (among others that will crop up I'm sure :biggrin2:). The throttle arm on my carb is loose allowing a poor seal. After doing some online searching, I found it to be a bad bushing. My problem is, I haven't been able to find a place to buy a new bushing. Many people seem to be aware of the problem but don't post where to get the part, just "replace with a new bushing". I did a little "test" someone suggested and sprayed some carb cleaner at the base of the shaft while it was running at idle and sure enough, the engine bogged down. Another symptom is my idle (fuel) adjust screw basically does nothing. I've had this carb apart when I got it and cleaned it up good before winter (I tried to start it and let it run for a bit every couple weeks during the winter so it didn't just sit), blew air through the passages, and even did that again yesterday to be sure; still no good. It runs fine at WOT, runs good with a load on the engine, idle is just a bit rough and like I said, I'm not able to adjust idle fuel really.
So my question is are you guys familiar with this problem? Where would I get a new bushing for this carb? |
Did you try our sponsors on top of the page, I know Chris sells them.

Ryan, your also going to need screws for the throttle shaft. They are #3-48 X 1/4" long. I recommend brass. I use loctite, and I pinch the threads. I ordered a package of 10 of the bushings. Like $8. I also ordered a box of 100 brass screws for the throttle from McMaster Carr. (My local stores don't carry #3 screws) Paid like $12 or $15 for a box delivered. If you can't find them, give me a shout and I'll send you a couple. :beerchug: |

I called up my local Grummerts and told them I needed three Hillman Thrust Bushings (in retrospect, I probably should have ordered more just to have) part #58087 and 6 #3-48 x 1/4" brass screws. They said they'd find 'em and order 'em up for me. Sometimes it's good being a familiar face in local hardware stores haha :beerchug: I'll be sure to post pics when I get the parts and do the install :beerchug: Edit: John, I still haven't forgot about that gearbox we talked about, just did some work in the shop and ran across it this weekend and realized I hadn't done anything with it yet! :bash2: |

Make sure you file off the few threads sticking out of the throttle shaft.
When start taking the screw out , screw it out a little ways and then back in. Do this three or four times. The screw will get easier to back out and not break off in the throttle shaft. |
