K321 starter/generator

I am trying to remove the pulley nut on the S/G and can not break it lose. It isn't left hand threads is it? I have put penetrating oil on it for two days now.

It is not left hand thread.I use an Impact wrench on it and had no problems so far.
Now getting the pulley off after you remove the nut is another challenge,I have only had two give me a hard time.

Thanks for the information. I'll try the impact on it tomorrow. I wondered about getting the pulley off also.

Darkminion 17, things went great today. The impact wrench removed the nut and the pulley came right off. The penetrating oil had traveled down the shaft and just a little pressure from two screw drivers removed it. And more good news for the day, I got the steering wheel off on the second try using a three-jaw puller. The jaws caught on the large washer under the wheel and no damage to the plastic. Once again thanks for the information.

That's good news gene. It could have went worse. I just made 2 into 1 with one with an open field coil and another one with a shorted armature. Someone staked the pulley on one and it doesn't look like it has a key way and wouldnt even budge, i was afraid to break the bearing plate plus the armature was about a half inch longer than the other for some reason and poked out the dust cover in the end cap. Maybe it was aftermarket not sure. Needless to say its a multi colored generator now but starts and charges great so nothing a little paint won't fix!

:bigthink:

So how do you hold the pulley while trying to break the nut loose? I'm new to this but I'm trying.

Thanks

If you're taking the nut off with an impact you should be able to hold the pulley with your hand, if you're using a rachet then you will need a strap wrench or a big pair of channel locks to hold it.

Wear a glove while holding the pulley, saves the skin. :beerchug:
