Cast Iron parts

I just bought a Cast Iron lower grille housing, I think this might help pushing the 54" blade around a bit. It was kind of hard to find. I've been looking for a while. Seems most sellers want 25 to 30 dollars for the part and 40 to 60 to ship it. I finally found one with free shipping for 40 bucks. I guess that means I paid 10 or 15 to ship it. That being said, the only aluminum I have now is the upper nose grill which I believe did not come in cast iron on the QL's.

The cast grill should help quite a bit. The aluminum grill QLs are light in the front. The upper grill castings were all aluminum, even on the 1x8-1x9 series.

Awesome, let us know how it works out for you! :beerchug:

I'm personally curious because next year, my 1450 will be on blade duty and it's got a cast iron front grill.

I found this list by Jeff Baker, but he hasn't made any changes or added anything lately. I read somewhere they went to aluminum bottom grill at 59**** but can't find my info.

I am making this list from info on the forum and found in my book.
If any are wrong please correct them..
Also add to the list if you have info

I've got friends and family in Warrenton, let me know if you got anything for sale.

Hmmmmm...

When we finally thaw out, I'm gonna check those parts with a magnet. My 800 has a broken upper nose, wondering if it was iron v. Aluminum. :bigthink:

cubby102 03-20-2014 02:01 AM

The upper nose should be aluminum. Out of all the q uietlines I've had all have been aluminum upper most of the ones I've had were cast iron lower. Currently my 1000 is cast iron lower. 1200 is aluminum lower and my 1450 I THINK is a cast iron I would have too look at it to be sure
