West Virginia 108

Here is the 108 I picked up last year. It was free or it was going to the scrap yard. It ran and drove to where it was parked and sat for about 3 years. I brought it home and parked it until I could find time to mess with it.

Just recently I moved it inside and pulled the deck and the mule drive off. The deck is supprisingly solid but the spindles are all locked up. I know they aren't cheap.

I plan to get her running and mowing and I would like to find a blade so I can push some snow next year.

Welcome fellow Mountaineer!

If you're willing to come get it, I'll give you the deck off of a 129 I just drug home. Gotta keep those old Cubs running and working!

Great find on the Cub 108.

I took the model 38A deck of my cadet 800 because when I turned the spindles by hand, 2 of them had rough spots and were binding.

It took me some time to get the spindles out, but when I did I found the outer spindles were full of dried clunky grease. Apparently, at some point someone had lubed the spindles with that real cheap sort of yellowish grease, which is NOT compatible with the black #2 Lithium grease that SHOULD be used in those bearings. So, some of the grease was hard and chunky.

Your deck might have different style spindles, but if you can get them out and apart, you may be able to clean and relube them.

Regards

Nice score on your 108!

Nice find and free is always good. I rebuilt the spindles in my 42 inch deck recently, just cones and cups although the seals are a little spendy and require 2 per spindle. Looks like you have an older model seat on there but looks to be in good shape. Congrats and hope you get it going.

My 108 is one of my favorites, good job on getting a green stripe!

Real nice one. What part of WVA are you? I am near Charles Town.
