149 pto rebuild

I am rebuilding a pto for the tractor that I am trying to restore. I also have another 149 that I use for various things. I have taken off both pto's and found that the one I am going to rebuild had a brake on it at one time. Also both pto's have a friction disc of almost 1/4 inch thick. The disc that came in the kit that I purchased has a much thinner disc measuring 2.0 inch. It also came with 2 flat springs. Sorry for the long post, my question is do I use 2 springs or just one spring? Both pto's were way out of adjustment by checking with the new gage, but the one I have been using worked well. I have searched this subject but am still unsure. Any input will be appreciated. I am sure I will have more questions as I progress in my project.

Many of the later manual front ptos came with two friction disks in them, though I am not sure where the break (in serial numbers) was.

Yes, you want to use two of the flat three sided springs in each pto.

I've seen both the thinner disks and the thicker clutch disk as well. I don't think it matters which you use. I put the ones that came in the rebuild kits on all the PTOs that I've rebuilt (5 or 6 of them). And yes, use both springs.

Don't forget to take the glaze off the metal surfaces that make contact with the new disc, when rebuilding, using some 80 grit wet sandpaper on a piece of glass will work fine on the cast piece, but on the thinner backup plate you should check it for flatness on a piece of glass,I had a friend resurface a few of them on a lathe that were not,but if it is still flat,80 grit also will work.
Did your kit come with instructions?

149 PTO Rebuild

Thanks for all the input. The kit did come with instructions, but it said right off that the thin disk is no longer made and was replaced with the thicker disc. It also showed a picture but it looked like only one 3 prong spring was used. Not a good hi quality picture though. Going to have to buy or make a thin 7/16 wrench to get the bolts broke loose. Soaked them with PB Blaster. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help.
