Time to say goodbye to my 682 but hello to a forum member

Well, this winter has claimed its first victim here at my household. The engine on my 682, which was a Series I KT-17 with unknown hours, has given up the ghost. She worked long and hard this winter blowing snow for hours on end, and more than earned its keep. But, something inside finally snapped a couple weeks ago and apparently put a hole in the block. I came out the next day and found that like a dog leaving a dead bird for a present, the Cub left me all its oil on my garage floor. I tried to convince myself that I could find another motor over the spring, repower and be ok but realistically, I had to face facts; that wasn't going to happen, for a lot of reasons.

Anyhow, I was left with two choices; sell it or use it for parts (spring assist, headlights, etc) for my other machines. I wound up talking to a fellow member here, Jelliff, who said he wouldn't mind having it as a project tractor. I figured if he could repower it and give it a good life rather than me basically scrapping it for parts, that'd be best. So, long story short, we set up a trade which would benefit both of us. In exchange for my 682 roller, I got a set of IH weights and a set of AG tires for my 1450. Plus, I now have another stall open in the garage if I happen to see another Cub that catches my eye come spring time :biggrin2: So now to the good parts, pics. Since I was getting the 682 out, I figured why not get the other Cubs out and give it a proper sendoff :biggrin2: So I grabbed a few group pics and then we loaded her up. And the last couple are of the AGs on the 1450 and the weights on the hood of the 129 they will be going on.

So, while I lost a 682, I got some new toys and got to meet a fellow member, real nice guy! I hope to meet up with him again some time, he's got a 1450 that I really like so who knows, maybe I'll fill that hole in my garage sooner than I think (pending the misses approval) :biggrin2::beerchug:

Since the engine went bye-bye, how many guys did it take to load that up?

Sounds like both of you did well on the trade.

Sorry about your "loss" Ryan.
Too bad...... I would have taken the ol' girl! :biggrin2::biggrin2:

I think you did well on the trade. Any time a motor goes it's tough.

I'm glad everything worked out in a mutual trade where each of you feel good about the arrangement......BUT.....(mark my words), you are going to miss the little red cub and will soon be looking for another red one!:biggrin2:

Always good to meet a fellow forum member.
So any thoughts on a replacement?

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, jelliff had an S10 and a good set of ramps so between the two of us lifting and pushing, she went right up. Although I will say I think he did most of the work, every time I'd grunt and push I'd slip on the snow/ice :biggrin2:

I'm already keeping my eyes peeled, although this time, it has to be a 782 (getting hooked on the hydraulic lift). It was quite sad to see the Red Cub go, I'd always wanted one and it was by far my favorite to drive.

Ideally I'd like a 782, 982 (good luck finding one) or a Super but I don't think I want to pre-82 series (unless the right Quietline came up, even though I already have one). I definitely want it to be a twin cylinder Cub, that much I know for sure :biggrin2: But it sure would be nice have a Super :beerchug:
