682 compression
I need to pull motor (kt17 series II) on my 682 to replace the rear seal along with some gaskets and such. It does smoke alittle on startup, but nothing while running. I ran a compression test, both cylinders are at 95psi....The manual states compression under 90 indicates a problem, but doesn't mention what the compression should be on a healthy engine. Is 95 psi borderline? No idea how many hours on this engine, but it does start and run well? Anything else i should be checking?

If they are both at 95 psi, I'd say you're fine. If there was a difference between the two, then you might have reason to worry. A new engine probably has 120 psi of compression. A little smoke on startup is normal on
the boxer twins. |
