682/782 engine plate spacer
 

Can anyone tell me about the .469 3/8 pipe spacer that is showen in the parts brake down for engine mount plate. Is it needed? why dosn't my 6 or 782 have one. It looks like everything is lined up proper. Is .469 between 7/16 and 1/2 " or am i mistaken. :bigthink:

7/16" = 0.4375" and 1/2" = 0.5".

Yes, you need them, they wouldn't be there otherwise. If you don't have the spacers between the engine and mounting plate, the engine is out of alignment, and those expensive spherical ball bushings at both ends of the shaft aren't going to last long.

I agree with Matt.
I couldn't remember putting spacers under my engine, I would of bet I didn't have them, so I just went out and checked---- Yep they are under there, all 4 of them! they are between the engine & the mounting plate.
Something else comes to mind also, without the spacers, your deck drive belt effectively would be just shy of 1" longer than it should be (.467 x2)

What would you guys recomend. Spacers new cost about $6 pc thats about $50 for both tractors . could i just use washers? Thank you for discribing where the spacers go the breakdown was vague. Put a want ad in the forum and see if anybody's got a pile of them laying around.

It's not going to be much fun to put tons of washers under there unless you tape them all together or something.

find some on here like Matt suggested or get a piece of the right size pipe and a cheap tubing/pipe cutter and cut your own.

Most hardwares will carry generic spacers/bushings. Just look for a steel one with the correct height and ID. Not sure the of the cost, but likely less than $6 each. Menards actually carries a pretty good selection.

Why not use 1/2" nuts, they should be about the correct thickness, usually about .430-.460 thick
and easily had @ the hwd. store/tractor supply.
they should have all you need for $2.00
Maybe I should turn up some on the lathe, ought to be able to sell them for $5.00 a set of 4.

Ol George, that's what I used. I found some grade 8 nuts the had nice flat surface so they would eat into the bottom of the engine. For the longest time I was wondering why I had to have such an aggressive adjustment to the pto belt tension and realized I had no spacers under the engine.
