new 982 today, need help identifying

Hello all, I picked up a 982 today but it will need some work. The supers are all new to me so I will have more questions to follow.

To start off with I want to identify the engine, year and hp. It is an Onan and these are the #'s on the tag. It is hard to make out some but this is what I got. Ser# K80 - 534373. Model # 48C-GA . Spec # 9/3707B

I don't quite understand the serial # rating on the 982 itself. I know that ser#'s below 619000 is the cast iron rear and higher is the cast aluminum. Where in the serial # is that #? Is it the last digits after the letter? Anyway, here is the ser # on the frame, 205059U688279. Tell me what you can

Also are some pictures, check out the deck it looks like one that I've seen on Cub loboys. It is about 5 ft wide or more, just haven't taken a ruler to it yet. Does the mule drive and carriage look correct?

Thanks
Chip

That is definitely IH built.

I'm not sure what's going on with that deck, but it looks like somebody cobbled a LoBoy deck onto that, somehow...

Your serial number is 688279. The cast rears were 719999 and below. I believe your engine is a "B" series/style. They were prone to come apart at the piston arm area. Your's could have been ugraded with the beefier style. Also, I thought someone mentioned the late B engine had the better ones in it but not sure maybe one of the Onan gurus will chime in. I think the "P" engine did have the better internals.

I would like to know where in the world did you find a gem like that in NC? I would love to find something like that around here. Congrats on that beauty:beerchug:

I don't think that is a loboy deck. I don't recall ever seing one that looked qiut like that. From looking at the welds and blunt angles on it,I would say it is home made. But it looks like they did a nice job on it.

Thanks David. It needs some work, atleast some tuning up. I found it not to far from you, it was in Harmony near Statesville.

Well if you come across anymore, drop me a line. Would love to get my hands on one of those bad boys. Do you live in that area?
