1250 PTO problem
Have a 1250 with a PTO issue, and looking through the archives I cant find a similar case or Im not looking hard enough. The PTO clutch won't shut off, runs constantly. It will quit turning in heavy grass if Ive forgotten to switch it on when I start using it. Certainly dont like using it in this condition. Any ideas, solutions? Thanks for any help.

My guess is it's one of 3 things.
Bearing is locked up or bad. Switch is not shuting off. The two pieces are bolted up too tight. If the springs over the bolts look compressed then back the nuts off a bit. Scott |
You may have full time power if wireing is messed up a little and magnet is holding it engaged.
Did someone mess with the airspace needed to disengage the clutch ? It should be around .004 I have set it as loose as .012 and worked fine. |

The problem as previously stated, falls into two categories. It is either Electrical or Mechanical. To eliminate one, simply disconnect the wire going to the Elec PTO Clutch. If the problem persists, then it is a mechanical problem. If not. trace down the electrical problem.

I'd bet the gap is set wrong. The gap is too small and it's grabbing even when the pto is off but when you go in thick grass with the switch off, the pulley will start to slow down and stop.

Thanks folks. I found out it was the bearing, swapped one out, set the gap...works beautifully. I can let the wife use it now :)
