Need a few opinions

Ok guys...im really starting to think that something is wrong with my 86. the old girl runs great once you get her started....hard part starting. i thought it was my battery so i replaced it and same problem again....it turns over until it hits compression stroke and stops but once it picks fuel up it turns right over and fires off. im thinking either timing is a bit out on the points or my starter/generator is lagging again (it has been replaced one already got 2 on stand by). my battery is 360 cold cranking amps. so im open to any ideas what it is....i know the head gasket is blown again but will be replaced soon.

Got a good clean ground from the starter?

ACR not working?
maybe

Check the timing, it can make a world of difference in starting.

I would start with all electrical connections, especially the ground(s) make sure they are good and clean and tight. Then see what happens.

X2, had the same problem with one of mine.

I would start with the timing, simply because it is a definite, it's either right on, or it isn't. If the timing is good, then you can rule it out as a possible problem, and move on to something else.

Next, I would hook jumper cables from your running car/truck directly to the Starter/Generator, Pos to "A" terminal and Neg to ground. This is more or less another good or not good "test". If the engine wants to hesitate on the compression stroke, then the acr could be the problem. If the S/G seems slow or sluggish, it could be on it's way out. If it spins the engine over like crazy, then all is good and you can move on to something else without doubt.

There is a good possibility that wiring or grounds is your problem. However, the above mentioned things are fairly quick and easy to check, eliminating them as possible problems will enable you to move on to wiring and grounds with all confidence that this is where your real problem lies.

i think i have it down to the S/G its self. it doesnt spin fast enough when the motor is cold but when its hot it fires right back up

This happened to my dad's 125. Needed a better wiring harness.

What made you decide, the S/G is faulty?
