Cub cadet original throttle trouble
1 Attachment(s)
Got a new throttle cable for my 1962 cub cadet original and put it in and it works but it only has half the range it should an when i put it halfway up it revs way to high. I have tried everything, am I missing something?
Any suggestion very appreciated! |
Sounds like the throw on the throttle cable lever is not correct for your motor. Try a different cable, or adjust the one you have differently.

Whats the throw? I have adjusted everything many times with no success. Thanks anyways |
When I say "throw" I am referring to how much the cable moves in relation to the throttle handle on the dash. If you used a replacement that had a different ratio, then it would change how far you have to move the lever to get a response. Not all throttle handles are created equal. They are different. You may have to find a different one.

It really sounds like the governor cross shaft and/or the throttle bracket is/are out of adjustment.
And yes, if the stiff wire inside the sheath is attached too far from the pivot point on the throttle lever, moving the lever very little will cause the wire to move a great distance, although I don't ever recall seeing one that is so far off that it would make as much difference as you describe. |
The governor has two places to attach the throttle cable. One closer to the end to allow for more travel and one further down to allow less. Would that be the problem?

Remove the cable, start it and by hand move the gov arm to increase the engine speed, you should feel the gov push back .If not it may need to be adjusted.
If you go to the tech section just download the kohler manual and it shows you the procedure to set the governor. |
