PTO Removal?
I've just spent the last 45 min or so searching for removal information with no luck. I need to remove the pto clutch from the Onan in my 982 in order to replace a seal and bearing gasket. Could one of the CC guru's give me some guidance? I have the owners and parts manual, but not the service manual. Although I do have the service manual for my 1862, but the info is pretty general. Thanks!

I don't have a 982, so I don't know if the clutch is exactly the same as the ones used on the Kohlers, but it is probably close. All of these come off the same way. Take off the 3 nuts with the round plate and the springs behind it, pull that off, and use an electric impact wrench to remove the bolt in the end of the crank. Most of the parts slide off at this point. Then simply remove the 4 or so bolts holding the backing plate on, and you're all set. Much easier than a mechanical PTO. Don't forget to disconnect the wire first...

Thanks Matt! I checked it out last nite and it seemed pretty straight forward, but I'll give it a better look tonite. I also think that I found the service manual at one of the other cc sites under the 1872 model. Downloading now. Thanks again. |
