2 stage blower

I retro fitted a MTD 40" 2 stage snowblower to fit my 1250, worked well for a year or so and I noticed it just did not have the snort I wanted so I Attached an engine mount on the back and now run a vertical shaft 20hp engine to power just the blower. Things a beast!! Now I am installing a cozy cab and making my auger controlled electronically. Any one ever done this?

How did you drive the blower with a vertical shaft? :bigthink:
And do you mean your going to make the auger electric or the chute?

How about some pics!

I used the factory kohler to just power the hydro transmission and hydro lift and made a separate engine mount that bolts to the rear hitch that I bolted the vertical shaft engine too. From that point I ran an electric clutch to a series of pulley block set ups that runs too the blower. For the chute I am going to use power window motors to operate left to right motion and chute tip up and down movement. I will get some pictures as soon as I can to show how it ends up.

I think I would have just repowered the 1250 with a 14 or 16 and been done with it.:bigthink: Sounds like you are trying to reinvent the wheel.

Even a 16hp would struggle to power the 40" 2 stage while also powering the tranny. I tried it on a friends 1650 and it struggled a bit. I love my cub and the last thing I want is to burn the kohler out prematurely hence why I have a sacrificial briggs and stratton bolted to the back lol. They are a dime a dozen and cheap.

I find that rather hard to beleive. My 1641 Cub with a 16hp Briggs Vanguard has more than enough kahunas to power the 451 45" snow thrower and power the trans. It will go through 12" of snow without a problem. All it says is let the big dog eat. LOL:beerchug: Sounds like you have some pulley ratios out of whack.
