IH cubcadet model 71 & 72

as most of you know, my 71 connecting rod went south. the 72 k161 will get the call to finish out the winter season. so i guess i'll have a true 7172. i'am sure that i may be the second owner of my 72. i purchased the 72 from my friend about 12 years ago. it was his grand-pa's and he got it after grand-pa expired. ran for a while and up and quit. sat in the back of the barn about 2 years untill i got it. so i've never had it running. over the spread of time i completed a nice paint job on the chassis. a few nicks and minor things to be repaired and painted yet. i will have this out in a few months, as this 72 motor is finaly getting it's paint! as for the 71, its going back to its original configuration, then the motor will get it's due. i will not show the 72 untill she's looking as best as i can make it.

i made a little progress so far. in the picture on the left, is a product that i use on the final step before paint. next, is the k161 almost ready to be de-greased and cleaned. as far as i got, here it is, the k161. i thought that brush-painting would be difficult and look sloppy, but that is far not the case at all. aside from some brush strokes and that brush painting takes longer, the results are very detailed and just over-all, super! i'll be posting more as i go!:American Flag 1:

btw, would now be as good of a time as any to add the engine oil? i always have run Cub Cadet low ash [sae 30] pt. no.737-3029. {$4.53/qt.} V.S Honda Power Equipment 10w-30 oil,{$3.98/qt.} at my local IH.dealer. he said that it is a good cross-reference to Kohler Magnun Universal Engine Oil # KH-25-357-06. so i'am going to try it. i saved a $1.10, hummmmmm.........
