Overdrive gears
I would like to make one of the Cub Cadets faster for riding trails and stuff. Has anyone here done this? I see overdrive gears are available up to 48% overdrive. Is it worth the trouble or just build a race tractor out of a belt drive cub?

I say if you want to ride trails with a cub, that's fine. Max speed is between 8-10mph without mods. If you want to go faster than that, buy a 4-wheeler. Its a tractor, not an atv. Just my :TwoCents:

Get an original, change the pulleys, make it go any speed you want!! :bigthink:
Do double pulleys, like a TroyBilt tiller, get double speeds, just move the belt. You could use that on my trails, but, I groom!!! |
i want to go visit these guys with a cub cadet

Where do you find the overdrive gears

once you get to anything 26% and up there's some machine work to do to the reduction housing . you have to remove the rear to get the reduction housing off. a 43 % in 3rd gear is about a 16 mph gear. might want to tighten up your steering or you might find yourself on your side

I think anything over 8-10 mph off road would be dangerous. There is no suspension, after all, and all the bumps are transmitted directly to your backside, potentially throwing you off. On smooth surfaces, I guess you could go much faster. I think I'd be looking for a helmet, though.

Not sure who made it, but when we purchased our "O", it came with this larger pulley to go on the engine. It REALLY speeds up the Original!
Here's a quick video of the tractor with the big pulley installed. |
bringing this one back
just spotted an O in pieces on craigslist cheap if i can get it, i am going to make it fast hehe. |
