682 engine blow-up; need help!

Hi everyone,

My cam shaft blew out the side of my engine block recently, so my 682 is currently a very large lawn ornament.

However, there is a guy in town who has an engine out of a 582 that runs well. Are these engines interchangeable?

If not, can anyone point me towards some resources that would help me figure out an engine that would fit? There are many engines for sale on craigslist, but I don't know what to look for, and I can't afford a new kohler!

I apologize ahead of time for my ignorance, as I don't know a great deal, and will likely have many questions!

Thanks!

The 582 had a 16HP Briggs & Stratton engine in it. Will it mount into a 682 frame....Yes.
Since I have never done this, I am thinking there will be some modifications to make it work.

As far as the Kohler's, a KT-17, M-18, or M-20 will drop right in.

Thank you! Do you have any go to websites for used parts where I might find one of those engines?

Look right to the Top of the Page. Patton, Houtz and Cub Classics all sell used parts & etc.
