My question thread

I have a few questions.

Tractor is a January 1970 107.

First question is on the generator. How do I go about checking this out for proper charging? I think something might be wrong as the gauge when running sits right under the middle mark.
I have the wiring diagram for it too. When tractor runs I take my dmm and as soon as I touch the neg lead to the battery the meter gets a reading with no pos lead on battery only the neg lead. With tracto off the neg lead does not get a reading.
Belt seems to be newish and tight also.

Well....... go ahead and put both leads on the battery with the engine running. What does it read then? :bigthink:

BTW: It's normal for a DVOM to do that.

When I do that the DMM is all over the place nothing even close to stable

Try a different meter.

If your tractors battery stays charged, and you never jump it, it's probably fine.

Meter is good. And battery isn't charging so it seems. Anyway to test the generator ?

You are using the "DC" Scale aren't you....???

Starter / Generator test as found in the Technical Library..... S/G Test

Here's something that might help as well.

Yes set to DC.
I used that link and went threw the steps.
I got to were I jump a wire from the F terminal on the S/G. With the throttle opend all the way I was to hear the rpms drop some and the volt gauge move. But I didnt.
Infact the RPMs went up and the volt meter didnt move.

Thanks will check this out

Also note this. I do not have a key. I have one but its broken so im waiting for a new one. So the saftey switch isnt hooked up right now

I have is jumper like this.
On the ignition plug. Wire from green, to black and blue wires, then back out from those 2 to the solenoid.
I have a toggle switch on the green wire to shut it off.
Not sure if that will effect the charge any but its more info for you all.

IF the tractor is wired correctly, and if you noticed no drop in RPM's (no load) then it is time to take the S/G to a professional repair shop and have it checked out.

So with the RPMs actually going up you're saying its a bad S/G?

How tight is the belt supposed to be? Id say I have 1/2 belt movment. The S/G does spin though.
