Front axle ?s
I am in the prosses of gathering parts for a build. I am going to build an 82 with all the goodies. Looking to put dual hydro, dual brakes, and power stearing.
Can someone explain the differances and pluses of using a differant front axle. I see some are putting super axles on,and some are using the newer cyclops (1581-I think),something about super stear. Then I think I read somewere that if you use a certain axle, that the mule drive and mower deck from the newer style fits right on the older 82 series. Please can someone help me with this? thanks joe |
All of the cyclops non-super tractors had super-steer axles. There were two versions. The early version will give the tractor the same stance as the normal WF front axle. I have a picture somewhere of one, but I just installed an new hard drive on my computer today and I don't have all my ducks in a row yet... This axle is found on the 1535, 1541, 1860, and 1862. The second version will raise the front of the tractor a bit and change the steering geometry slightly so the newer 46", 48" and 54" decks will fit. It is found on the 1440, 1641, 1861, 1863, and 1864 IIRC.

Thanks, Do you know about how much it will raise the front? I dont want to raise it to far and and have it change the geometry on my snow blade. If it gets to high it will make the blade want to dig in and trip more. I had that problem on one of my old lifted trucks,I had to lower the whole plow mount witch defeated the idea of the lift kit.

If you put the taller front axle on, you'll have to use a blade subframe from the same tractors that the axle came from.

I had to modify the subframe I am using now. I did not like the one that went back to the rockshaft. So I found one that go's on the foot rest bar,and had to move the front mounts. So I could probly just see what angle the plow sits at now,and the move the front mounts again to keep it the same. I would not think it would be more than an inch or two higher with the newer axle , do you ?
thanks joe |
I don't know, I haven't had the newer axle.
