Hydro Fan Help
Got carried away with some deferred maintenance on my 1450 today. Pulled engine to replace broken hydro fan... Now I'm confused on which direction the fan should be pointed???!!!
It's been about two years since I wrenched on the Cubs, so I have almost forgotten what little I knew about basic operation. I have stacks of manuals and could not find anything definitive there. Also could not find definitive info on the web. HELP!!! I've gotta have this thing back together today!!! -lol Thanks! Steven |

I don't have any experience with it, but the fan should go on such that when the driveshaft spins, it will blow air towards the back of the tractor over the hydralic pump.
Turn the engine over by hand to make sure you know which way the driveshaft is suppose to turn. Got this picture from an ebay auction for a 1650 driveshaft. It should give you another opinion on which way the fan is pointed. From other fleabay auctions, it looks the narrow frame, and 682/782 driveshaft fans point the same way. Anybody else have something more definite? |
On ANY CUB CADET the drive shaft will ALWAYS spin clockwise (as you are sitting on the seat). The fan blades should look like they are trying to "cup" or "grab" the air. Just like the pic in the previous post. :beerchug:

The convex side of the blades go toward the front.

Page 2-39B of the Service Manual. Besides the fan, if you don't already have it, get the CC 916-3001 snap ring. These are much stronger than the snap rings sold at hardware stores, and will hold the fan in place.
