Difference between a 149 and a 1450

I understand all of the attachements (deck, blower, etc.) are interchangeable. What else is different between the 2?

Pros and Cons?

149 has a different hydraulic lift linkage, mechanical PTO, starter/generator, solid-mounted engine, and a muffler that discharges out the side. 1450 has an electric PTO bendix drive starter and stator charging system, ISO-mounted engine, and a larger muffler and shroud that discharges out the front. The air filter, carb and choke linkage, coil mounting, etc. are also different between the two. The 149 has a left-hand hydro control, and the 1450 has a gated control on the right hand. I'm probably forgetting a few things...they're different in many ways.

The reason I am asking is because I am trying to decide if it's worth getting rid of my 1450 with the blown engine for a 149 with a rebuilt engine.

Why do you say that?

get the 149! those 1450's are quiet lines, those ISO mounts on the motor tend to go bad and cause all sorts of vibration and i believe can damage the oil pan after a while, also i loke the looks of the 149 a lot better, they look meaner, the QL's look odd IMHO, plus any running cub is worth more than a dead one unless its in a lot worse shape and the non running one is like a 982 or something lol your choice but i would go for the 149!

If it's an even trade I'd go for the 149 in a heartbeat. You're looking at downtime and money with the blown engine and "seat time" with the 149. If you can get the 149 and keep the 1450 then that would be something to consider. Having 2 or 50 is better than having one or 49. Also, does the 1450 have hydraulic lift? The 149 does for sure or it's suppose to. I have both and to me they're both fine tractors.

i like my 129 and 169 over my 1650

I would have to give up my 1450 plus $400 for the 149. Still worth it? Keep in mind I am right now looking at $400 for a 'new to me' engine.

I don't think you'd be happy with that deal. I see 149s on cl all of the time for around $400. You'd be giving the 1450 away. I bet if you tried you could sell the 1450 for a couple hundred which means you'd be paying $600 for the 149. You might be better off trying to find a good used engine and swap them out.

A millionaire once told me "when in doubt, do nothing". It did nothing for my fortune but I think it's good advice a lot of the time.

Good luck with what you decide....Wayne
