Coupling hydraulic pump to a Kohler?
 

Long story short, I'm building a log splitter. I have a good complete spare K-301 sitting here that I'd like to use. I would like to close couple the hydraulic pump to the Kohler. I know a bracket exists to do this that bolts to the Kohler, that the pump then bolts to. The problem is the the large pulley for the S/G is in the way and I'd like to retain the electric start. I'm fishing for ideas on how to get around this...thoughts?

Some years ago I was faced with the same problem. As far as I know there is not an adapter made to get around the starter pulley.

I ended up using a Lovejoy coupling and building a very simple bracket to hold the pump. I know this isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, but the Lovejoy couplings really are pretty strong and best of all they are very forgiving if your alignment isn't just perfect.

I've been using my splitter for a number of years now and have never had any kind of pump/bracket/coupling related problem.

^^^^ love joys are the way to go. make sure you buy spare rubber lovejoy inserts though. when they go, there is no saving them.

Thanks guys.. I kinda thought I'd have to do something like that. It's really not a big deal I suppose. Close coupling it would have packaged a little more nicely, but whatever, no big deal. :beerchug:

Another quick question... What is the shaft diameter of the Kohler?

The front shaft is 1"
