1450 internal brake plunger leak
 

here is the diagram , has anyone replaced the o-ring on one of these ? can you do it from out side by removing the brake lever etc. or does it require getting access to the inside of case ?

You can do it from the outside. The hardest part is getting the puck pulled out. I used two fairly large mechanics magnets to get the puck out far enough to grab it with some adjustable pliers and then pulled it out. The o ring gives a little resistance.

DWayne is exactly right, they can be stubborn.

The front of the plunger is tapered around the outside, I use a very thin pick to clean the "V" shape out.

Then if you are careful and don't squeeze too hard, you can clamp it with a pair of curved jaw vice grips, bigger jaw inside the center hole (where the ball goes) and the smaller jaw on the tapered part.

Then twist and pull. If it's stuck very bad, more twisting than pulling.

If the trans-axle is still in the tractor, to prevent losing the fluid, I will "stand the tractor on end" using a chain hoist.

Thanks , I was hoping that would be an option. I'll grab an o-ring and get it done. (hope I can match one up at NAPA) The brake arm shaft ... is there a pin or other devise that holds that in place that needs to removed before you slide that out for removal ?

i was able to find the o-ring at the local ACE hardware

You need to remove the brake adjusting screw in order to remove it and the brake arm.

Tks for the info guys,

this was far easier than I had envisioned .. it was more difficult finding the o ring, our town has been taken over by the big box stores ... they didn't have it. Neither did Tractor Supply ... so I waited for Monday morning to roll around and went to the next town over (15 miles) to the good ol hometown hardware store and bingo ... success and I'm back running. Now if the weather would cooperate long enough to mow a little ....
