Loader tractor (good deal made my decision)
 

Saturday I'm going to pick up a Farmall H with a good working loader. The tractor is not rusted out, and is supposed to run very well, and the loader works good. Cylinders do not leak. It needs the rear tires replaced, and I'll have to convert it to a wide front. Not sure of the year, I didn't really care, so I didn't ask. For now we'll just classify it as old. It has a 3pt hitch and a rear pto drive. Comes with both a snow bucket and a dirt bucket, and a set of tire chains. $400.


Anything I should know or expect?


I would've really liked to get a Cub with a loader, but this was just too good of a deal to pass up, and is within 50 miles of me.

As soon as I pick it up I'll get pics up. I've seen a picture of the tractor, but the loader wasn't on it. I hope it's not the old style of loader (long skinny arms that don't lift very high). But if it is, it'll be an excuse to buy a better one.




This will look nice sitting in the shop next to my $10 dollar Brinly one bottom.

The Farmall H with a loader that we had on the farm did not have live hydraulics or PTO. It was an early model.

The loader we had on the H would not work with a wide front end.

This one has a rear pto, but I didn't ask about live power. I would asume no, since it's such an old machine, but I guess I won't be sure until I get there. I believe the loader on this one is quite a bit newer than that one, if not, it'll go on craigslist quick! Was it really good for much? How high would it lift?

I don't think any letter series Farmall had a live PTO. A Super H might have had live hydraulics, but even if it did, any loader would be run off of another pump from the PTO.

We had 30 dairy cows. the winter/overnight area where they live/slept was 60 by 40 feet. When the ground was froze hard enough to hold the tractor and manure spreader the pen was cleaned. Usually by them the manure was 2-3 feet deep. The H and loader filled the spreader. We did not have live hydraulics......clutch had to be engage for the loader to lift the load. When I operate the loader I would ram the manure pile till the tractor start spinning the rear wheels. While the rear wheels were spinning I would start to raise the loader enough so I can back out of the pile.

The loader would raise 7-8 feet at full lift. The bucket did not have hydraulics on it. It had a spring to return the bucket back to home.

Our H did not have power steering, live hydraulics and live PTO. It was a bear to steer. We use that H and loader set up for 15 to 20 years.

We have an M with live hydraulics and power steering (no loader). I believe it was an after market M&W add on, not sure exactly the setup though.

Chances are I'll use the loader that's on it for now, finda good deal on a bigger loader with it's own pump down the road, and sell the one I have.


If this one turns out to be less than desirable, that is.
